Amy Winehouse contacted Dr. Drew'

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Dr. Drew Pinsky claims Amy Winehouse tried to contact him for help.

The addiction medication specialist is famed as the host of radio chat show Loveline, and has also worked on television shows such as Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew.

According to Drew, late songstress Amy, who tragically passed away at the age of 27 last Saturday, had been in touch with him in a bid to receive help combating her addiction issues. The cause of Amy's death will not be known until toxicology tests come back in around four weeks, although she had famously battled with alcohol and drugs for a long period.

Drew claims he would have loved to help the hugely talented star, although only discovered her call for help when it was too late.

"Believe it or not she was trying to contact me," he told KROQ L.A. radio hosts Kevin Ryder and Gene Bean' Baxter. "We could have maybe gotten her over here to someplace really good."

Drew was asked whether he thinks Amy's death may encourage addicts to seek rehabilitation. He isn't convinced though, as he understands the complexity of the issue.

"That's the craziness of addiction - the denial of addiction and the stinking thinking of addiction serves addiction nearly always," he lamented.

That said, he did reveal how he'd heard that Brooke Mueller, ex-wife of Charlie Sheen, is using Amy's passing as motivation for her sobriety. The celebrity reportedly checked into residential rehab earlier this month. (C) Cover Media
