Amy Winehouse TV series planned

16th August 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Plans are underway to make a television mini-series about Amy Winehouse.

The British singer had a high-profile battle with drink and drugs and was found dead at her London home last month. She was 27 and until toxicology tests come back her cause of death is unknown.

As well as having a colourful personal life Amy was known for her jazz vocals, winning five Grammy awards alone in 2008.

Television bosses now feel a story of her life would be a hit and are already considering who should portray her.

"The feeling is there wouldn't be an actress under 30 who wouldn't want to play her," a source told British newspaper The Sun.

"The first job is to get financial backing from co-production companies in the States. Some are showing interest because it's a sure-fire money-spinner. They know anything Amy-related is going to be a huge success."

Details of the project remain under wraps, but it's thought it will be a series rather than a one-off TV movie.

Earlier this month it was reported a big-screen adaptation of Amy's life may also be taking shape. It's rumoured that Lady Gaga is keen to be involved.

Gaga is known to admire Amy, previously saying she couldn't speak for several days after hearing she had died. She also revealed she resembles the late star so closely many people used to mistake her for Amy before she was famous.

"Gaga's been itching to start doing movies and knows that a film about Amy's tumultuous life of addiction, pain and stunning artistic triumph is the perfect vehicle to launch her big-screen career," a source told National Enquirer. "Gaga idolised Amy No one's more perfect to play her." (C) Cover Media
