Angelina Jolie: Education is powerful

17th October 2012

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Angelina Jolie is inspired by Malala Yousafzai's bravery.

The 14-year-old Pakistani girl was nearly killed by a Taliban hitman last week while on her way to school. Malala incited hate from militants after speaking out in support of education for girls.

Malala is now in the UK receiving treatment for her injuries and Angelina honours the teenager's courage.

"It was difficult for them to comprehend a world where men would try to kill a child whose only 'crime' was the desire that she and others like her be allowed to go to school," Angelina penned in her essay for the Daily Beast We Are All Malala.

Angelina espouses schooling for all children.

She is happy to witness the grassroots dissent on the matter that is taking place in Pakistan currently.

"Education is a powerful thing," she wrote.

"As girls across Pakistan stand up to say 'I am Malala,' they do not stand alone. Pakistan, a national movement has emerged to rebuild the schools and recommit to educate all children, including girls. This terrible event marks the beginning of a necessary revolution in girls' education."

Angelina hopes to see Malala receive an official acknowledgment for her valour.

The star believes the youth could be up for a Nobel Peace Prize.

"I imagine brave Malala will be given serious consideration," she said. (C) Cover Media
