Angelina Jolie visits Syrian refugees

17th June 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Angelina Jolie visited refugees from war-ravaged Syria in Altinozu, Turkey, today.

A giant banner stating "Goodness Angel of the World, Welcome" greeted the Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commission when she entered the refugee camp.

The thousands of exiles that Angelina witnessed earlier today have fled to Turkey most recently as a result of violence against anti-government demonstrators.

In a video commissioned by United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to commemorate World Refugee Day on June 20, Angelina spoke out against the sufferings of refugees.

"Every day, thousands of people run from war, persecution and terror," Angelina said. "Even one is too many. One family force to flee is too many. One child growing up in a camp is too many. One refugee without hope is too many."

The actress was armed with boxes of toys for the children as she arrived on a private jet in the Turkish province of Hatay. She also shared fruit with the refugees and spent several hours speaking to people and taking notes on the issues they discussed together.

Nearly 10,000 Syrians have so far sought refuge in camps in Turkey.

Angelina's most recent humanitarian visit was to Tunisia this April where she visited thousands of people who fled from Libya due to similar political unrest.

She will continue to perform humanitarian acts for United Nations and intends to focus on the current refugee crisis. (C) Cover Media
