Ankit Tiwari's discharge plea rejected by special women's court

2nd June 2016

Singer Ankit Tiwari who is popular for his songs 'Sun Raha Hai Na Tu' and 'Galiyan' was alleged by a 28-year old woman who claimed that the singer attempted forced intimacy several times with a fake promise of marriage between the years October 2012 and December 2013.

Cops arrested Ankit in May 2014 after the woman filed an FIR with Versova police station against him and his brother Ankur for a case of rape and criminal intimidation, among other offences.

However on Wednesday i.e June 1,2016, the special court rejected the application of discharge filed by the singer. Anju Shende, Special women's court judge rejected the discharge pleas and said that the reasoned order copy will be available later.

Ankit's lawyer Mahesh Vaswani said, "The singer and his brother are absolutely innocent and there is absolutely nothing in the FIR or the investigations which remotely even constitute any offences as alleged in the FIR and chargesheet filed," while arguing the plea.

He also said that witnesses did not support the complainant's case that the alleged rape occurred on July 20, 2013, at a party she threw. Witnesses said the party allegedly was on July 21, contradicting and thus "falsifying her FIR."
