Anurag Kashyap claims to be a 'struggler'

13th May 2012

Bollywood's acclaimed filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has been known for his unconventional ways of filmmaking. Citing the super success of his films he has gained a cult status in the industry. So much so has been the reach of his films that he has been specially invited to deliver a speech at the upcoming Cannes international film festival as his films have been handpicked for the fest.

However, despite of getting international acclaim for himself and his work, he claims that he is still a struggler. "I am still where I started. I am still struggling. In fact, the struggle has only got bigger. I always try to go beyond my means and this is where the struggle comes in." said Anurag.

He added that the fact that his films went through a difficult phase made him realize that things are not just white and black, "My films got banned and I got wondering what's wrong. Then I realized the problem was with the system. It does not define my films as cinema. My struggle was that I saw films differently from others in the space I worked in. The way they see films is easily funded, the way I see films is not. Entertainment's definition has been reduced to making people happy. Entertainment can be many things. Industry has taken a long time to understand what I am doing is also entertainment. The struggle is still there, even though it's not as much as it was a decade back" concluded Anurag.
