Arnold Schwarzenegger signs to western movie

12th July 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Arnold Schwarzenegger is to appear in a modern western movie called The Last Stand.

The Terminator star has signed up to star in the film, which focuses on a law official trying to capture a drug lord who attempts to flee across the Mexican border. Directed by Jee-woon Kim, the film is not expected to be released until 2013.

"It's an old-fashioned Western specifically designed for a 63-year-old broken-down guy with a moral decision whether Arnold decides to stand up for his town," an insider told Deadline. "We always needed an iconic figure for it."

Earlier this year it was reported Arnold was keen to return to the big screen following the end of his tenure as Governor of California. However, in May a statement was released saying the plans were on hold following the break down of his marriage to Maria Shriver and the revelation that he fathered a child with one of his household staff.

"Governor Schwarzenegger is focusing on personal matters and is not willing to commit to any production schedules or timelines," the statement read. "This includes Cry Macho, The Terminator franchise and other projects under consideration."

Cry Macho, which is based on the novel by N. Richard Nash, would have seen Arnold play a horse breeder who is forced to kidnap his bosses' son from the child's mother in Mexico.

"Arnold wants to be back on a set making movies, make no bones about that. He wants to put this chapter of his life behind him, and make hit movies," a source said last week. (C) Cover Media
