Arnold Schwarzenegger loves to cycle and sightsee at the same time.
The action hero revealed his exercise secrets at the London press conference of his latest action movie The Expendables 2 which is released in Europe this week. The former professional body builder admits he is from the "old school" when it comes to fitness and has to find new ways to keep exercise interesting as he gets older.
"I believe in reps. I'm old school, but I like to have fun," Arnold revealed to Cover Media. "Here in London it's fun because you have the cycle scheme Boris Bikes all over the city. It's good because you can do bicycle riding and sightseeing at the same time. To me exercise has always been part of my life but it is tougher as you get older."
The fitness conscious star described modern exercise techniques used by his co-stars in the hit franchise as being "for girls".
Sylvester Stallone uses Plyometrics to keep in shape which is lighter on the body than the heavy weight lifting preferred by Arnold. The Austrian actor says as long as he is getting paid to make action movies like The Expendables he doesn't mind intensifying his workouts.
"The girls use Plyometrics," Arnold joked. "Sly uses a more scientific way of training, he uses the latest scientific findings on training. I believe in doing an hour a day and I do the same exercise I did 50 years ago and it still works. I eat the same food I did 50 years ago and it still works and I have to do something every day. As you get older your metabolism slows down and muscles don't respond in the same way anymore. When you do action scenes and fight scenes you take longer to recuperate, but so what? It doesn't matter. It's not like you don't get paid for it. It's not like we don't have a good time, we have a great time and it doesn't matter what age you are."
