Avril Lavigne: Creating perfume is major

7th February 2011

(Cover) - EN Star Style - Avril Lavigne has hit back at claims that celebrities only care about their names being on the bottles of their signature scent.

The Canadian singer who also has a successful clothing line, Abbey Dawn revealed that she is heavily involved in the pain-staking planning behind bringing out a celebrity perfume. The star first unveiled fragrance Black Star in 2009, followed by perfume Forbidden Rose last year. Her third fragrance is due later this year, and the star devotes a huge amount of time to it.

Its a two year process. Its a major thing. Theres so much that goes into it from colours and the packaging and the name, and then what it stands for and the tag line and the story behind it and then the scent, she told the Kyle and Jackie O radio show.

Despite taking on new projects in the fashion world, the 26-year-old insists she never loses sight of her music career. She always makes sure her fashion and beauty ventures remain relevant to her status as a musician.

I tie it in with my music because I am an artist. This is something I am putting my name to and it has to represent me. Its all tied in with what I do as a musical artist, so Black Star is the first fragrance and the message behind it is be your own star and reach for the stars and follow your dreams, she explained.

Despite Avrils dedication to her fragrances, the star realises not all celebrities have the same sense of honour. She doesnt agree with this at all, and thinks it is a shame stars decide to cash in on their celebrity status.

I think some people get to do that stuff [not be involved in the process] they probably just want their name to be used, but Im involved with everything, she added. (C) Cover Media
