Beckham family happiest' in Los Angeles

19th January 2012

David Beckham wants to reside in a place where his "family is happiest."

The football superstar and his wife fashion designer Victoria Beckham currently live in Los Angeles with their four children.

The UK natives moved to California in 2007 when David signed on to play for the football team LA Galaxy.

British newspaper the Mirror reports that David has recently signed a two-year contract extension with the club.

Before penning his signature on the dotted line, David consulted with his wife on whether or not he should stay in Los Angeles.

"Victoria and the kids have the final answer on where we live," David said at a Google press conference. "When you're married with children your priorities totally change. With the new contract, it was a decision I didn't take lightly and at 36-years-old you don't expect these offers as a footballer, but America is where I thought the future was going for the game and where my family is happiest."

The family of six, which includes sons Brooklyn, 12, Romeo, 9, Cruz, 6, and daughter Harper, six months, are very fond of Los Angeles. They have acclimatised well to Southern California culture.

"We love living in LA, we've adapted to the American lifestyle and we've enjoyed our time here and will continue to enjoy it," David gushed.

David admits that there were a few cultural barriers to power through initially. It took a while for the Beckham clan to get comfortable with the region's vernacular.

"When [Brooklyn] was drawing at our house one day, Brooklyn looked up and said Daddy I need some rubbers.' " David recalled. "I looked over at my friends from the US and they were in shock! I didn't understand [that rubbers meant condoms] at the time but I get it now. He calls them erasers now anyway."
