Ben Affleck wants to "serve as an example for his kids" through his philanthropic pursuits.
Ben has two children with his wife actress Jennifer Garner and the expectant couple will welcome their third tot very soon.
The actor founded charity the Eastern Congo Initiative in 2010 and has since visited the war torn region eight times.
Ben is honoured that he has the ability to contribute to society on such a grand scale.
"I got to a point in my life where I felt like I had been very fortunate," Ben told People magazine. "And I wanted to do something more with my life than just make movies and try to make money. I wanted to do something that was important to me in other ways and would serve as an example to my kids."
Ben's non-profit organisation supports several Congolese charities that are committed to rebuilding the region. Providing healthcare and places of solace for former child soldiers inspirits the benevolent actor.
"The people there are working as hard as they can to make their lives better," Ben said. "And that's inspiring."
Ben thinks its essential that his children learn the benefits of being selfless.
"I tell them it's important to be involved in the world in way that help others and not just yourself," he declared.
Ben and Jennifer have been married for nearly seven years.
They have daughters Violet, six, and three-year-old Seraphina together.
Their third child is expected to be delivered within weeks.
