Beyonc Knowles: Coldplay calmed me

27th June 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Beyonc Knowles watched Coldplay's Glastonbury set to help her "calm down" about appearing at the music festival.

The American singer closed the annual event yesterday, with her set going down a storm with the cheering crowd. Although she looked relaxed and happy on stage the R&B star admitted afterwards she'd been petrified about performing.

Rock bands Coldplay and U2 also headlined the festival in the UK, and Beyonc explained watching other groups helped her relax. She was spotted enjoying Coldplay's set with her husband Jay-Z and singer Chris Martin's wife Gwyneth Paltrow, and had nothing but praise for the group.

"It made me feel a lot better last night, you realise people just want to listen to great music. I just thought, This is just beautiful.' I just thought, Calm down girl!'" she laughed after her performance. "I'm happy it was sunny, it was beautiful today!

Beyonc took to the stage in a gold sequinned jacket worn over a black leotard with high-heeled ankle boots. She gave renditions of some tracks from her new album 4, but also pulled out some of her best known tracks. Among them were Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It), complete with hand-waving dance, Sweet Dreams and Baby Boy.

The star thrilled with a Destiny's Child medley, including Independent Women, Bootylicious and Survivor, and also gave a rendition of her Lady Gaga duet Telephone. Other highlights included versions of Kings Of Leon's Sex On Fire and You Oughta Know by Alanis Morrisette.

"You are witnessing my dream! Thank you for having me and my band tonight, I always wanted to be a rock star and tonight we are all rock stars," she said at the beginning of her set.

On Saturday, the star discussed how much being invited to the event meant to her. She promised to do her best to thrill the crowd, adding she'd gone to others for advice about what to play.

"I'm the biggest fan of U2 and I'm the biggest fan of Coldplay, they are genius, so I've spoken to both of them about my setlist. I'm so excited to share the stage with them," she told the BBC.

"For Glastonbury to recognise that women have the power to headline, that's amazing, and I'm proud that I am the chosen woman. I am going to rock!" (C) Cover Media
