Bhansali searching for his 'Mary Kom'

30th August 2012

Sanjay Leela Bhansali recently announced that he would be making a film based on the life of Olympic bronze medal winner Indian Wrestler Mary Kom and her struggle. (read article)

Though the film will be produced under Bhansali's banner, he won't be directing it. Instead, it is his assisting team member Omung Kumar who will mark his debut as a director with this film.

The difficulty however lies in finding a perfect lead actress to step into the shoes of Mary Kom. They are scouting for a perfect lead and toying with various options.

"At this point, we don't know whether we are going with an established actress or a new face who will match Mary's physicality. It's not an easy choice to make. But since the girl will anyway have to train for four months (to learn boxing, pick up the correct posture and Mary's special stance), we will have to come up with the final name within the next ten days," said Omung..

Sanjay, along with Omung recently met Mary in Mumbai where they discussed the film at length. It is heard that Mary was heavily impressed with their research on her life and has expressed that if required, she is ready to contribute as and when she can.
