Black Women Are Trendsetters Of American Hairstyles

2nd November 2010

November 2, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): The African hairstyle is no longer the staple look of the politically defiant in the United States. Once held with a lot of skepticism from the whites, it is the blacks, especially the black women in America who have turned out to be trendsetters in the world of fashion. Owing to the popularity of Willow Smith, daughter of celebrities Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, who sports some unusual hairdos in her latest album Whip My Hair, black women are no longer shying away from flaunting their individual styles.

Whether its long or cropped, curly or straight, its the African American woman who is currently regarded as the most stylish in the US. While the Willow Smith video is a rage on YouTube, it is a video from television series Sesame Street which is currently doing the rounds in various sites on the internet. The I Love My Hair video features a Muppet who plays with her hair styling it in the traditional Afro way.

While children are sporting the African American hair style, the beauty and music industry have also been invaded by black women who are calling the shots. Who can ever forget the style statements made by Beyonce Knowles and Rihanna. Their curly waves and colorful hair colors have been the topic of discussion for a long time now.
