(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Boy George has revealed that at times his life was "a spectacular disaster".
The singer, who is set to travel the UK with the Here & Now tour this summer, has finally left his troubled past behind at the age of 50.
The star explained a lot of the drama in his life was caused because he doesn't do things by half.
"The young me was quite belligerent and self-destructive," he told British newspaper The Daily Mail. "Unfortunately, people know me recently for lots of drama. For being arrested and going to prison. I've got my work cut out to remind them what I actually do. My life hasn't always been a disaster, it's just that when it has, it's been a spectacular disaster. I've never done it by half measures. All the worst possible things that could have happened, happened to me: being arrested in America was one of my worst nightmares."
The eccentric star shot to fame in 1980 as the exotic looking frontman of Culture Club, but his career was marred by personal issues and drug addiction. He was ordered to complete community service in America after pleading guilty to falsely reporting a burglary in 2006 and in 2009 he served four months of a 15-month sentence in the UK for the assault and false imprisonment of a male escort in his East London apartment.
"I've never been a bad person and always had quite good morals. There's always been a side of me that's been quite proper, but it's got distracted here and there. Now, I'm the person I should be," he said. "I wish I'd done all this [clean living] 20 years ago. I wish I'd gone running with Madonna when she asked me 20 years ago. I used to say, I only run when people chase me.' But I get it now." (C) Cover Media
