Charlene Wittstock praised by Armani

4th July 2011

(Cover) - EN Star Style - Giorgio Armani enjoyed dressing Charlene Wittstock for her wedding as she has a "beautiful structure".

The legendary designer created the stunning gown for the blonde beauty's marriage to Prince Albert inside the Royal Palace of Monaco on Friday.

Charlene, who became Her Serene Highness Princess Charlene of Monaco after the recent nuptials, is a former Olympic swimming champion, and Giorgio says her impressive physique made designing the dress a joy.

"Charlene is without a shadow of a doubt very beautiful. Tall and slim, she is sporty and at the same time has a natural elegance about her. Dressing her is such a pleasure - she knows how to wear my creations with the nonchalance and confidence of youth," he told Vogue. "I believe Charlene has the ideal figure to show off great dresses, because they highlight the fine curves and beautiful structure of her back and shoulders."

Giorgio says it was important to create a unique look for the new royal. The 76-year-old Italian fashionista was determined to create an individual look for the 33-year-old, while keeping in tradition with a classic look.

"The idea was to go for a completely modern look, without an obvious sense of nostalgia or revivalism. I felt this was appropriate given that there would inevitably be comparisons with Princess Grace, and though such comparisons are of course a sign of admiration, each person has their own individual and unique style, and style is an expression of the times," he said.

Charlene's dress took 2,500 hours to create, featuring 40,000 Swarovski crystals and 20,000 mother of pearl teardrops. (C) Cover Media
