Chris Colfer defends Glee love scene

7th November 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Chris Colfer says Glee's controversial gay sex scene is not "raunchy, suggestive and brainwashing" as people are expecting.

The American actor plays Kurt Hummel in the hit TV series. He and Blaine, portrayed by Darren Criss, are set to lose their virginity to each other in an upcoming episode.

Rachel Berry and Finn Hudson - played by Lea Michele and Cory Monteith - also have sex for the first time.

Chris expects television watchdog groups to inevitably create upset surrounding the contentious storyline.

"I absolutely expect to hear from them," he told Entertainment Weekly.

"But I think it's handled very sweetly and very emotionallyThey're expecting this big, raunchy, suggestive, brainwashing storyline when really it's very sweet."

Chris was initially daunted when Glee executives told him about the storyline. However, the star's worries were soon put aside after reading the script.

"It's funny, I always go into this instant panic state whenever they tell me about upcoming episodes because we always do so many delicate situations on the show," he smiled.

"But then I get the script and we shoot it and it's always handled so well that I never really had any reason to worry about it. It's nothing like what my imagination built it up to be. It was much tamer than even I was expecting."

Chris, 21, says the premise for the scene was very simple and sensitively handled.

"My imagination went all over the place. I think everyone is going to walk away from it wishing their first time was like that. The love scene is, with all due respect to the episode and all the people behind it, I think the love scene was all physical. We don't say anything. We kissed and rolled around a bit," he described.
