(Cover) - EN Showbiz - A new biography on David Bowie has delved into the time the rocker and Iggy Pop spent in Germany, revealing their minds were a little odd.
The music stars both enjoyed vast success throughout the 70s and lived in the German city of Berlin at the end of the decade when it was divided into separate Western and Eastern districts. During the period both stars weaned themselves off their addictions David had been addicted to cocaine and Iggy to heroin - and developed their musical styles.
Extracts of a new biography published in British newspaper The Times about David has revealed this period of their lives was especially adventurous.
According to guitarist Phil Palmer who has toured with a host of artists ranging from George Michael to Robbie Williams the jamming sessions which took place where experimental on every level, adding the bond between David and Iggy was heart-warming.
They were very supportive of each other, and just having fun. And they were... obviously experienced in some pretty weird stuff. I wasnt aware they were taking anything but their minds were a little odd, he explained.
Apparently David gave unique musical instructions, which stemmed more from psychological ideals than instrumental ones. He wanted his music to reflect the spirit of the 70s club scene.
Imagine youre walking down Wardour Street and as youre walking past each club youre inspired to play whats coming out of it, he recalled David as saying.
Tony Visconti, producer of Davids iconic Low album, also has fond memories of the period and David and Iggys unique appearances.
Iggy had this platinum hair, and Bambi eyes, laughed the producer. Bowie had that dreadful curly perm from around Space Oddity. (C) Cover Media
