David Furnish addresses Madonna slam

20th January 2012

David Furnish "wishes the best" for Madonna despite calling her "desperate [and a] narcissist".

Sir Elton John's husband David took to Facebook to lambast the singer immediately after Madonna won the best song trophy at the Golden Globe Awards on January 15.

Elton was in competition for the same award and David felt that Madonna did not deserve the accolade.

"My passion for our film Gnomeo & Juliet and belief in Elton's song really got my emotional juices going," David posted on his Facebook page Thursday. "But I must say for the record that I do believe Madonna is a great artist, and that Elton and I wish her all the best for next week's premiere of the film W.E. (sic)."

The day Madonna won the award David was seething with rage.

"Madonna. Best song???? F*** off!!!" he posted on Facebook. "Madonna winning Best Original Song truly shows how these awards have nothing to do with merit. Her acceptance speech was embarrassing in its narcissism. And her criticism of Gaga shows how desperate she really is (sic)."

Madonna seemed to have no hard feelings toward Elton or David, despite the bad words.

"Oh I hope he speaks to me for the next couple of years. He's known to get mad at me," Madonna told the BBC after the ceremony. "I don't know, he's brilliant and I adore him. He'll win another award and I don't feel bad."

Elton was nominated for his Lady Gaga collaboration Hello Hello from animated film Gnomeo & Juliet.

The two musical icons have been feuding for years when the Rocket Man slammed Madonna's win of Best Live Act at the 2004 GQ Awards.

"Since when has lip-synching been live?" he said sarcastically at the time.
