Debbie Harry: Cleaning inspired me to sing

26th April 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Debbie Harry says working as a housekeeper helped her become a star, as she realised she didnt want to change pi*sy sheets forever.

The singer is the frontwoman of Blondie and is proud of her lengthy career in the music business. As a young woman the 65-year-old tried her hand at many jobs, including being a secretary, but it is her work cleaning the home of one family which has really stuck with her.

The worst was when I was 15. I was a housekeeper for four children who were compulsive bed-wetters, she told Q. I had to change the sheets every day. I tell you, ripping off four sets of pi*sy sheets every morning is a good way to focus the mind on what you really want to do.

Debbie also worked for the BBC as a secretary in New York. She didnt mind the job, although some of her co-workers left a little to be desired. She describes the men as hairy beasts and says there was a much more exclusive clientele when she was a Playboy Bunny.

Being a Playboy Bunny was OK. It was decent money. I served drinks and made the guys feel good. With sex? No! It wasnt lecherous old men, she explained. It was young men living the fantasy of being a playboy. (C) Cover Media
