Delhi Rape Case leaves B-Town overly disturbed

20th April 2013

India is yet again ashamed with another disgraceful rape incident making headlines these days. A 5-year old girl was brutally raped, and was left in a dying condition in Delhi recently. Ever since the news has broken out, there has been a rage in the nation as people are protesting against this inhuman act, and Bollywood is not far behind.

While everyone is talking about the incident, Superstar Amitabh Bachchan feels that we as a nation fail to learn from our past.

Big B, who has always been active on the social networking platform, yet again expressed his annoyance through his words. Amitabh stated that it's a matter of shame.

"Have no energy left to write, think and communicate the horror of this crime!! Something is going horribly wrong with us as a society!! Prayers for the little girl as she fights for her life!! Distressed, disturbed and frustrated to learn of the rape of a 5 year old in Delhi ...now fighting for her life!! A shame !!" he wrote on his microblogging page.

On his blog, Amitabh questioned the very culture of our Indian society, "What is happening to us as a society, a community? Why and how are we succumbing to these atrocious and ghastly acts … who are these people and where do they come from....which Mother gave birth to them, and how were they brought up … in which environment." The actor further added that imprisonment is not the solution to teach them a lesson. "Jails are not the solution … keeping them bound and confined shall not change them or their thinking … they need to be made examples of … they need to be shamed first publicly and then left to the public to deal them justice in whichever way they seem fit!"

Other Bollywood celebrities too wrote on their microblogging page:

Preity Zinta: "5year old gets Raped & India see's its DARKEST DAYS. Do we now have 2 take the law in our Hands 2get Justice as prayers don't work anymore!"

Shilpa Shetty: "Appauled with the 5yr olds rape story nd disgusted with the Delhi cop who slapped that girl who protested! What is our country coming to:("

"When will this apathy end!Time to wake up. Strict punitive action MUST be taken against these offenders at the earliest. Heartbreaking!:( :("

Riteish Deshmukh: "Read about the brutality that a 5yr old was subjected to. I am shocked beyond words. What kind of a society r we becoming?"

"I pray for the quick recovery of the girl and more strength to her family. God bless."

Farhan Akhtar who has initiated the campaign MARD - Men against Rape & Discrimination penned a poem that reads:

"I see you little girl
tears in your eyes
bruises on your body
blood on your thighs

I hear you little girl
your whimpers your cries
your silenced protest
your resonating sighs

I feel you little girl
your pain on the rise
your trust of man in ruins
your childhood's demise

I understand you little girl
your rage your surprise
your confusion about the beast
in human disguise

I stand with you little girl
to seek justice, to chastise
the devil that defiled you
i swear, will find no allies."
