Demi Lovato: Singing National Anthem was a dream

25th October 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Demi Lovato says singing the American National Anthem at the World Series was a "dream come true".

The singer performed The Star-Spangled Banner at the opening of Game Five of the series on Monday night.

The Texan performed in her hometown of Dallas, where her team the Texas Rangers went on to beat the St. Louis Cardinals.

Demi was delighted to be asked to sing before the game.

"Getting to do this in my hometown, is such a dream come true," she told MTV News. "I've been to these Rangers games many times. I've sat in the nosebleed sections where you can barely see anything and now I'm going to be singing on the field. It represents my journey and how far I've come. I just feel so blessed and so thankful and so honoured."

However, the singer also admitted she was very nervous. The 19-year-old has sung for thousands of people at her concerts, but she was scared the baseball crowd may not be as friendly.

"It's a different environment from my shows; there are people that come there to see me," she explained. "Here, they are coming here to see baseball and I am actually just singing the National Anthem. So it's kind of more pressure for me to do good because I want to impress people that didn't come here to see me and I also want to impress people with a song they've heard a million, kajillion times. If anything, to be able to step up in front of 51,000 people is going to be incredible."

The star follows in the footsteps of American Idol winner Scotty McCreery and actress-and-singer Zooey Deschanel who have both sang for earlier World Series games. (C) Cover Media
