Did Superstar Rajnikanth approach Manirathnam?

12th May 2011
Everyone's curious to know why Manirathnam's 'Ponniyin Selvan' got dropped. Here we have it exclusively for you… It was heard from close sources yeaterday, that A.R. Rahman had advised Manirathnam to shut down plans of making the period film 'Ponniyin Selvan', as it is not financially viable. Other sources now claim that Superstar Rajnikanth had some recent discussions with Manirathnam, pertaining to this project.

All that we know is that Kalki's 'Ponniyin Selvan' has universal rights and there are no restrictions upon the copyrights. Gradually, Superstar Rajnikanth has adapted more sequences from the novel for his upcoming film 'Rana'. Apparently, this would leave many confused and upset and he has perhaps advised Manirathnam that if he has plans to make such a big project period film, he has to try that out with a bigger star cast like him and Kamal Haasan.
