A very talented director and film-maker, Vetrimaaran turns 36 today. Coming a long way through high school and university, he always wanted to be a cricket player, but after failing to get through the selections, Vetrimaaran gave up the idea and decided to complete his studies, taking up English literature.
Studying for almost four years, he decided to drop out of English and take up a Masters degree in television presentation. This is when he realized that his passion and interests was towards film-making.
Vetrimaaran, worked as an assistant director making television serials and it was during that time he had written scripts for various feature films. After a while, when he decided to show his scripts to some big people in town, that is when he was on a roll.
His debut movie as a director was 'Polladhavan', for which he received the Vijay Award for Best Director. The second best movie he directed was 'Aadukalam', which earned him six National Film Awards, with Vetrimaaran receiving the Best Direction and Best Screenplay awards.
At the moment, he has a few movies in his kitty which are in production.
The young director started off pretty late with his career, but no doubt he has stood strong and appealed the masses.
