Ed Westwick helped to deal with a drunken man by "dragging" him out of a bar by his collar.

The British actor was enjoying drinks with a group of friends at the Barrow Street Alehouse in New York City recently when he noticed a commotion.

The 24-year-old star stepped in to help staff at the establishment after an unruly customer "knocked all of the drinks off the bar".

He was reportedly refused any more alcoholic beverages because of the state he was already in.

Ed was quickly on hand to physically deal with the situation.

"Ed lifted him up by the collar and dragged him out," an onlooker told the New York Post.

The spy said the offender was "aggressive and violent", but this didn't deter Ed.

Apparently the star calmly returned to his friends after the incident "like nothing happened."

Ed is currently in New York City filming new episodes for the hit television show Gossip Girl.
