Ekta to make a biopic on Azharuddin

15th June 2013

The Indian Premiere League (IPL) season 6 certainly managed to beat the TRPs compared to the last season, but it was not all good news with the IPL this year as 'spot-fixing' surfaced towards the tail end of the season. Fans were certainly in for a déjà vu, as they were hit yet again with their cricket stars being involved in the match fixing racket.

Omung Kumar is busy shooting with Priyanka Chopra on the Indian boxing star Mary Kom's biopic, and Farhan Akhtar is gearing up for the release of his next 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag' which is based on the life of the Indian athlete Milkha Singh. And the highly creative and opportunist Ekta Kapoor, who is one of the best at her game, has managed to bag the rights to Mohammad Azharuddin's biopic which will be based on the cricketer's life.

Based on insiders, given the latest controversy around cricket, it could not have been a better time to ride on the infamous wave, so with multiple filmmakers competing for the rights, it was Ekta who managed to score the biopic rights at a hefty price.

The film is expected to go on floors later this year, so the cast will have to be finalized soon. The production house has not confirmed on who would play Azhar or Sangeeta's role, but based on sources in tinsel town, Ekta has narrowed down to three contenders - Ranbir Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan and Ranveer Singh, and the team will soon make their final decision based on which star would be apt for the role and available for the shoot schedule.

We would certainly love to learn more on the male lead, and of course fans would be curious to know who would play the role of Sangeeta Bijlani in the movie.
