(Cover) - EN Movies - Elijah Wood has revealed he was blown away by the comedy content in the pilot script for his new TV programme Wilfred.
The American actor is best known for his high-profile role as Frodo Baggins in Peter Jackson's highly-acclaimed fantasy trilogy The Lord of the Rings.
The 30-year-old star is currently appearing in FX's dark comedy Wilfred which follows the story of Ryan, played by Elijah, and his neighbour's dog Wilfred. At first Ryan is suicidal, attempting to kill himself several times in the first episode, but after being assigned to looking after his neighbour's dog, he sees Wilfred as an Australian man in a dog suit.
Despite the dark undertones of the TV series, Elijah says he was drawn to starring in the role because of its undeniably humorous content.
"I read it and I was like Wow, this is generally the funniest thing I've read'," he revealed in an interview with Nylon Guys. "And I'd certainly never seen anything like it on American television before."
Elijah is keen to take on roles that are "strange". The actor says he was impressed by the script for Wilfred because it's not something that can be figured out immediately.
"I'm really interested in things that are strange and unique and difficult to peg, so the idea of being a part of a television show that had the potential to be slightly undefinable was exciting," he said. (C) Cover Media
