Ellen DeGeneres: Alcohol fuelled my writing

7th October 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Ellen DeGeneres may have been "drunk" while writing some chapters in her new book.

Ellen has just released Seriously I'm Kidding. The tome candidly discusses many aspects of the comedian's personal and professional life, including her stint as a judge on Simon Cowell led television programme American Idol.

Speaking to Extra's Mario Lopez at The Grove in Los Angeles this week, Ellen admits that the nice things she said about Simon in her book may have been a result of intoxication.

"I must have been drunk during that chapter," Ellen joked.

"[Simon's] actually a nice guy."

Ellen also told Mario that she is feeling much better following the brief heart scare she had last month. After feeling chest pains in the middle of the night and the following day, Ellen called emergency services for assistance.

"Here's the thing... I was scared enough to call the paramedics," Ellen explained.

"I woke up in the middle of the night to kind of like a tightness feeling in my chest and I thought, that's not good."

When the pains occurred for a second time, Ellen was quick to dial for help.

"Then I was driving to work... right before I got in my car I started feeling it again and it was scary enough that I called the paramedics on the Warner Bros. lot thinking nobody would hear about it," Ellen recalled.

"It got blown out of proportion and I'm totally fine. I got it checked out and it's just... I don't know what it was."

Seriously I'm Kidding is now in bookstores across America. (C) Cover Media
