Ellie Goulding has called it quits with her beau.

The Starry Eyed singer became internationally recognised last year when Britain's Prince William and his new bride Catherine Middleton chose her to sing at their wedding reception.

Her professional life has since soared, but personally things have hit a tough patch. The star and her boyfriend radio DJ Greg James have broken up after spending 18 months together.

Ellie and Greg decided to end their romance before the holidays.

"Things had not been right for a while but they only called it [off] a month ago," a source told British newspaper The Sun. "It was just a real struggle for them to be in the same place at the same time."

The pair now appear to be on good terms with each other.

"The split is amicable and they are still friends," the source added.

Ellie and Greg first got together in June 2010 at one of Ellie's early live shows.

The relationship first seemed to turn sour in autumn 2011, when Ellie moved out of the apartment that she shared with Greg.

The pair tried to make it work, but they ultimately decided to part ways.

Splitting in early December, Ellie decided to take her mind off the break-up by going on holiday to Thailand with her friend singer Jessie J over the Christmas holidays.

Ellie was in good spirits on New Year's Eve.
