(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Sir Elton John says hed probably throw himself off a cliff if he didnt get the chance to collaborate with other artists.
The talented singer has worked with numerous different artists throughout his lengthy career, including American musician and songwriter Leon Russell with whom he collaborated to create his latest album The Union (with Leon Russell). Elton thinks if he had never had the chance to work with other artists his music wouldnt have been half as interesting, and he would probably have got fed up with recording and performing.
If it was just me and the band and nothing else I'd probably throw myself off a cliff. But I'm playing with Leon, with my band, with Ray Cooper, then on my own. So it's never boring, he told British newspaper The Independent.
Elton has had a fruitful career not only as a performer, but as a writer. The multi-talented star has written musicals for the stage, and claims writing the soundtrack to hit Disney film The Lion King in 1994 confirmed his status in the realm of musicals.
The Lion King opened so many doors for me. I've written four musicals on Broadway. I've done film music. My life is full of different things, he beamed.
Elton is immensely proud of his latest record, and says he didnt want it to sound contemporary. The album has echoes of the American Deep South, and Elton thinks it sounds like it could have been made in any era.
I just wanted to make a record that sounded like a 60-year-old man singing and that's what I think I sound like. That's what I wanted for this record for it to be timeless, he added. (C) Cover Media
