Elton John: Movie was a labour of love

7th February 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Sir Elton John says making new movie Gnomeo and Juliet was like giving birth to a whale.

Elton and his partner David Furnish were executive producer and producer respectively of the animated tale, which is inspired by English playwright William Shakespeares classic tale of star-crossed lovers Romeo and Juliet.

The movie follows two garden gnomes Gnomeo and Juliet, voiced by James McAvoy and Emily Blunt as they are caught in the middle of a feud between their neighbours. Elton and David spent years bringing the movie to the big screen and have joked it was easier to have a child their son Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John was born in December via a surrogate.

This has been the hardest thing I have ever had to do and probably David too, making this film. It was like giving birth to a whale, Elton joked in an interview with Sky News. Having a baby took nine months and this has taken eleven years.

The British singer went on to reveal being a father is the most relaxing thing he has ever done. Despite the disrupted sleep patterns, as well as feeding and changing diapers, Elton insists he loves every minute of raising Zachary.

Even though the couple are adjusting well to parenthood, they have no plans to add any other children to their brood for now. Elton and David were unsuccessful in their attempt to adopt a young boy called Lev from Ukraine in 2009, because the country doesnt recognise same-sex couples. Elton recently revealed Lev was still in his thoughts and he wouldnt give up on helping him.

For now they are focusing their energies on looking after Zachary, but havent ruled out expanding their family one day.

We are just taking it one day at a time, its a huge change in our lives and we are loving every minute of it, David explained. Who knows what the future holds? (C) Cover Media
