Emraan talks business, not just money

12th April 2013

The moment a big film is announced, actors, media, industry pundits, everyone starts speculating its commercial viability and the possibility of the project potentially joining the '100-crore club'.

However, there are a few like Emraan Hashmi, who look at the actual business and not the magical '100-crore' number.

Despite delivering one hit after another, Emraan is surprisingly one of those few actors whose films have never made it to the coveted club; but Emraan is unfazed by the fact.

He states that for a film to be truly declared a hit, it should have a decent profit margin. He explained with an example that a film earning 100 crores is meaningless if it is made with 70 crores and marketed with a budget of 50 crores. According to him, it is a true victory for the movie only when the project makes double the profits based on the amount invested on the movie production and promotions.

Citing an example of 'Raaz 3', the actor shared that the movie can truly be called successful as it was made in 15 crores, marketed for 10 crores, and it ended up making 85 crores. Although the film might have missed the 100-crore mark, it made five times the investment, which according to him is a huge profit for a project.

Emraan confessed that he has no regrets of not being a member of the 100-crore club and that he would not simply gun for 100 crores by opting for 'trashy' mainstream cinema that he does not like.

Point noted Mr. Hashmi.
