Ewan McGregor only got injured once when shooting his new movie after he hit someone in the head.

The actor is promoting his new action film Haywire, in which he portrays Kenneth. It follows a former member of the black ops called Mallory who has to fight to stay alive after being double crossed.

Mixed martial arts champion Gina Carano plays Mallory, and had some fighting scenes with Ewan.

"The only time I got hurt was when I punched Gina Carano in the head by accident," Ewan laughed to E! Online.

The Scottish star explained the sequence was heavily choreographed and should have gone fine, but he mistimed one of his hits. It resulted in a painful injury for him, although Gina barely felt the blow.

"I had a series of three punches, but the third one...for one reason or another I connected really hard on the side of her head," he laughed. "I almost broke my friggin' hand!"

Gina recently admitted the incident also left her shaken as she was terrified Ewan might have done some serious damage to himself.

Haywire also stars Channing Tatum, Antonio Banderas and Michael Fassbender and is directed by Steven Soderbergh.
