Florence Welch: I know Spice Girls' rap

9th March 2012

Florence Welch was such a fan of the Spice Girls she knows "the whole rap" to their very first song.

The songstress champions British music and says the famed 90s girl band comprising of Victoria Beckham, Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton, Mel B and Mel C were one of the first groups she really fell in love with.

Florence has recalled buying their debut single and listening to it on repeat.

"I bought [Wannabe by the Spice Girls] on cassette tape and I know the whole rap... So here's the story from A to Z, you wanna get with me, you gotta listen carefully...'" she quipped.

"Posh [Victoria] and Ginger [Geri] were my favourites."

Florence loves the variety of musical offerings from British bands and musicians. The 25-year-old star doesn't want to pigeon-hole the industry.

"British music is too hard to categorise, because it's so wonderfully diverse," she said.

Florence appreciates her family supporting her rise to fame.

The star has compared her mother's parenting advice to the mysterious but powerful figure in The Matrix.

"The best advice my mum ever gave me is difficult to sum up in one sentence. My mum's given me so much advice that she's like The Oracle!" she laughed in an interview with Company magazine.
