Florence Welch: Imitation is scary

2nd January 2012

Florence Welch is worried about the amount of people who are pretending to be her.

The British singer's blend of quirky pop music has built her a strong fan base, which she's very proud about. However, she's starting to fear that some of her overzealous admirers are trying to copy her.

"They've given themselves their own name. The Flos! I get messages saying, I saw you on the Tube,' or in this place and I'm like, I wasn't there.' There are quite a few doppelgangers out there, for sure," she admitted.

Florence can remember look up to famous people when she was growing up.

She finds it strange that some say she's made her name popular again, as she would long to be called something else when she was little.

"Well, because Florence is an old lady's name it's good to bring it back," she said. "When I was a little girl I definitely didn't want to be called Florence. I wanted a cool American name. Like Sandy."
