(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Francis Ford Coppola will receive a lifetime achievement Oscar at a special ceremony in November.

The 71-year-old director, who is best known for 1972 mob drama The Godfather and its sequels, will be honoured with the Irving Thalberg Memorial Award at a gala in Los Angeles. French director Jean-Luc Godard, actor Eli Wallach and film historian Kevin Brownlow will also be presented with honorary awards at the event.

"Each of these honourees has touched movie audiences worldwide and influenced the motion picture industry through their work," The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science President Tom Sherak said in a statement.

"It will be an honour to celebrate their extraordinary achievements and contributions at the Governors Awards."

It will be Coppola’s sixth Academy Award. He won four for The Godfather, and one for his 1970 screenplay Patton.

The Godfather trilogy was based on Mario Puzo’s novels of the same name. It followed the fictional Italian-American Corleone crime family and starred Marlon Brando, Al Pacino and James Caan. (C) Cover Media
