(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Gina Gershon says her character's "crotch" aptly "reflects the humour" of Killer Joe.

The 50-year-old actress plays immoral Sharla Smith in the dark new comedy. The film has attracted a great deal of interest for the graphic scene involving Gina, Matthew McConaughey and a piece of fried chicken. During the sequence, there is a full frontal shot of Gina's character. The actress has revealed she considered a wide range of merkins wigs for private parts before settling on one she called Bertha.

"The bigger the better, because I wanted my crotch to reflect the humour of this movie," Gina explained to New York Daily News. "It's glued on there just like a fake beard. And while I might have looked exposed, I actually felt very protected, like I was wearing a big bikini."

Gina who previously appeared in Showgirls - thoroughly enjoys playing characters who are nothing like her.

She also finds it amusing that the fried chicken scene has received such attention.

"You don't know whether to laugh or look away. It's both disgusting and intriguing," she added. "Everyone wants to talk about that scene because it is one of the great introductions to a character in a movie. It's not just because it is shocking, but because it really says who Sharla is. She's a very feral woman that sees putting pants on as an unnecessary hassle." (C) Cover Media
