Noted industrialist V Rambabu, 58, whose daughter was to be married to Gopichand next week, committed suicide by consuming poison at his residence in Malakpet, on Sunday.

It is said Rambabu took the extreme step as he was hurt by the last-minute cancellation of his daughter's marriage. He owned a commercial complex in Dilsukhnagar, also had a furniture shop in the name of Poorna Enterprises there.

A close relative of TDP leader SV Krishna Prasad, Rambabu contested the 2009 Assembly elections from LB Nagar constituency. In an engagement ceremony held 26th January, Rambabu's daughter's marriage was fixed with Gopichand. 

Suddenly, the two families cancelled the engagement a few days ago, for unknown reasons. The wedding was slated for 24th February.
