Sooraj Pancholi's trial for Jiah Khan suicide case begins

After some serious investigation by the Crime Branch, Mumbai court proceeds on Wednesday on the controversial Jiah Khan suicide case trial that includes Bollywood actor Sooraj Pancholi's involvement. Initially, in January, Judge K D Shirbhate stated serious charges on the 27-year-old actor for his involvement in Jiah Khan's suicide.The case was issued under section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code, to which the actor pleads not guilty. As per the investigated charge sheet, Jiah Khan, popularly known for her role in film 'Nishabd' starring was found dead hanging at her apartment on June 3, 2013. As per her mother Rabiya, she had left Sooraj Pancholi' house, where she was staying for the last two days before her death.

Meanwhile, Sooraj Pancholi’s lawyer Prashant Patil said, "The court today asked the prosecution to submit the list of its witnesses so that summons can be issued to them."

As per CBI's charge sheet Pancholi had "hidden facts and fabricated information" during questioning. The agency also said that a three-page unsigned note seized by Mumbai police which earlier probed the case had been written by Jiah, and it narrated her "intimate relationship" with Sooraj and "physical abuse and mental and physical torture" she faced at his hands.

Son of Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab was present in the Mumbai court during the hearing on February 14.
