(Cover) - EN Fashion - Gucci kicked off Milan Fashion Week yesterday, with a technicolour collection.
Creative director of the luxury fashion house Frida Giannini wanted to showcase a Spring/Summer 11 range which was both feminine and sexy. She paired luxury fabrics which acres of embellishments, while the bright colours couldnt help but capture the audiences attention.
Its for modern amazons; an intellectual tribe of exotic women, seen through an urban lens, she said.
Green and turquoise were paired together, along with purple and orange. The colours were bold, but the clothing was flattering for everyday women. Tapered silk trousers were cinched in with belts and teamed with long jackets, while pencil skirts were sexed up by being styled with plunging tops.
There was a nod to the 80s with the inclusion of some flowing harem pants, but it wasnt all about eye-popping shades. Tailored trousers and fitted tops also came in nude shades, which instantly made the models look expensive.
Fringing was added to jackets and dresses in a nod to the tribal looks which inspired Frida, while frocks also made their way down the runway awash in embellishments.
Albert Ferrettis collection was ethereal, with the clothes in shades of cream, white, nude and grey. The pieces were a mixture of flowing and fitted, with long dresses perfect for hazy days on holiday coming down the runway along with deep v-neck tops and a grey linen suit.
Chiffon gowns were given edge with lace inserts, while one coral frock was covered in ruffles. Bias cut gowns provided the evening wear, and were draped to show off the models figures.
Milan showcases some of the biggest designers in the world, including Versace, Bottega Veneta, Roberto Cavalli and Giorgio Armani. Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi and Prada are all due to show today. (C) Cover Media
