2nd November 2011

“Thanx so much boys & girls. celebrated my birthday in the plane 30000 ft in the air...then on the tarmac...finally with my lil girl & boy,” Shah Rukh wrote on Twitter on the eve of his birthday. Shah Rukh Khan who has been travelling world over promoting his film Ra.One is finally back home for his 46th Birthday.

He has been known for his wit, his charm, his friendship, his marriage with Gauri Khan, his love for his children... Anything he says or does is news. The grace with which he handles controversies has always been a matter of immense respect and praise. Shah Rukh means 'Face of a King' in Persian and Shah Rukh has proved it right. King Khan as he is rightly known as, was born in New Delhi to a activist father and a mother who came from a military family in the year 1965. After the death of his parents in 1991, he moved to Mumbai- the City of Dreams. In an interview Shah Rukh Khan had once said that he was standing at the sea and could see the  entire city. It was then that he declared,"One day I will rule this city" and that is exactly what he has done.

Shah Rukh always knew he wanted to get into the media. He studied acting under the Theatre Director Barry John in Delhi. His acting debut was through the highly acclaimed Television serial Fauji in 1988. His other famous serial was Aziz Mirza's Circus. It was said that he had some resemblance with the actor Dilip Kumar and even his acting style was similar to his.

His Bollywood debut came with the movie Deewana in 1992 which won him the FIlmfare Best Male Debut Award. SRK went on a spree of giving hit movies after this. His most remembered and most loved films are Darr, Baazigar, Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Karan Arjun and of course, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge- the evergreen love saga. Shahrukh also gave a series of flop films but his fans loved him despite those films. His real come-back after Swades was Chak De! India. The people who usually criticised Khan also appreciated his acting in the movie.

SRK soon decided to get into production. He turned producer when he set up a production company called Dreamz Unlimited with Juhi Chawla and director Aziz Mirza in 1999. In 2004, Khan set up another production company, Red Chillies Entertainment. In 2008, Red Chillies Entertainment became the owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders in the BCCI-backed IPL cricket competition. SRK returned to Television with Kaun Banega Crorepati, replacing Big B. After this, Khan began hosting the game show Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain? He was a host for Zor Ka Jhatka: Total Wipeout as well.

Throughout his career Shah Rukh Khan has won several awards and accolades. In October 2008, Khan was conferred the Darjah Mulia Seri Melaka which carries the honorific Datuk (in similar fashion to "Sir" in British knighthood), by the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob, the head of state of Malacca in Malaysia. He is the first star to have two wax statues, one in the prestigious Madame Tussauds and the other in France. Besides, he also has many global campaigns in his kitty; his stage shows are as popular as his movies and his fan following spans countries as far as Germany, France, Poland and South Africa, besides UK.

Shahrukh Khan has been following the practice of addressing his fans who gather outside his house Mannat on his birthday every year. King Khan was so overwhelmed with emotions that he tweeted, “was so touched when i reached home from bathing..sooo many ppl waiting outside the house and sang happy birthday for me. I had tears in my eyes”
