(Cover) - EN Movies - Harrison Ford considers historical accuracy a fundamental part of moviemaking.

The 69-year-old US actor is currently promoting sci-fi thriller Cowboys & Aliens, which is set in 1873 and tells the story of a spaceship arriving in Arizona to take over the Wild West region.

Harrison portrays Woodrow Dolarhyde, a veteran from the 1862 Battle of Antietam during the American Civil War, which was one of the most gruelling battles in US history.

Harrison worked hard to ensure references to the combat were historically accurate, and even made some alterations.

"I wanted to know the history, I certainly did want to study Antietam and I wanted to make sure we had those references correct, and, in fact, we did make some corrections to that," he told Cinema Blend.

When asked if he had learnt anything by creating the character of Woodrow, Harrison argued that the movie has been no different to any other. He follows a similar formula with all films he makes, in order for moviegoers to comprehend who he's playing.

"The process is the same always. It's creating behaviour to help tell the story, understanding the utility of the character to the story overall and then efficiently attending to all of that and try and bring as much life and texture and reality to the situation. It might not be real for an audience if they didn't recognise human behaviour and emotions in that context," he explained. (C) Cover Media
