Heather Locklear was taken to hospital out of fear she would "harm herself."

RadarOnline reports that someone close to the star called emergency services Thursday afternoon as they were concerned for Heather's well-being.

The 50-year-old actress drank heavily and took prescription drugs as she was rattled over her called off engagement with Jack Wagner.

"The person who made the call was worried about Heather's state of mind and they were afraid she was going to harm herself," a source told RadarOnline.com. "The person called 9-1-1 because they were worried about Heather."

Heather and Jack called off their engagement in November of last year, three months after they made their wedding announcement.

Their relationship has been unstable ever since.

"She is distraught over her relationship with Jack, it is on and off and it has upset her lately," the source continued.

Paramedics on the scene were thought to have been deeply concerned about Heather's condition. After about an hour, they convinced intoxicated Heather to go to hospital.

"[The family member] was afraid Heather was going to harm herself because of her drinking mixed with medication. That was behind the 911 call," the source said. "911 personnel were at her house for more than an hour before she went with them."

Heather's representatives have not yet commented on the incident.
