Hugh Jackman: Wife missed Jagger party for me

7th October 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Hugh Jackman's now-wife turned down the chance to party with Sir Mick Jagger as she was so enamoured with the actor.

The hunky star raises two kids with Deborra-Lee Furness, who he married in 1996.

He has now recalled the moment he knew they were onto something special. Hugh invited Deborra to a dinner party, although at that time he didn't know if she was interested in him. Her friend called part way through the meal, and what unfolded astounded him.

The pal asked Deborra to meet her as she was hanging out with Rolling Stones rocker Mick, to which she replied: "You can tell Mick Jagger to wait. I'm talking to Hugh Jackman."

Hugh was amazed by her reply, and knew from that moment on they were meant to be together. He still looks back on that time and laughs.

"That sealed the deal," he explained to talk show host Jimmy Fallon. "But what was she thinking?"

Meanwhile, the star has revealed he gave up dancing as a child because his brother teased him about his sexuality.

The Tony award-winning actor has become well known for his all-round acting, singing and dancing talents.

However the star has admitted that he didn't do dancing as a child because his older brother Ian made fun of him.

"[Ian said], What are ya a p**f?'," Hugh recounted to British newspaper The Guardian. "I wasn't 100 per cent sure what that was, but I knew it didn't sound like something I should be. And that was it as far as dance. I shut it down. I was just too embarrassed."

His brother apologised when Hugh was in his late teens. But the actor still regrets how easily he was swayed.

"I literally signed up for a tap class the day after he'd said sorry," he confessed. "Of course, I was fully aware I'd left it too late to turn professional."

Hugh has also struggled with gossip about his sexuality in his adult career. In the past the actor has constantly had to dispel rumours.

The actor now laughs off any insinuation that he might be homosexual. "You really know you've made it when the gay rumours start," he smiled. (C) Cover Media
