December 20, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Ace designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee plans to start work on his first onscreen project as director next year! Though this may come as a surprise to many, this is what Sabyasachi Mukherjee had to say when asked about his future plans. However, Sabya has still not confirmed which one of his leading Bollywood muses will be playing the lead in his directorial venture. The designer, who was in the city of Chennai in the recent past, speaks about Raavanan as one of his most memorable experiences in movies. Not only because he got to design his favorite yellow kalidaar dress for Aishwarya Rai Bachchan but also for the fact that he got the opportunity to work with someone of the stature of Mani Ratnam.

Raavanan is also special for Sabyasachi Mukherjee because it was on the sets of the film that he met his favorite South Indian actress Shobana Chandrakumar. Pepsi, as he is popularly known as, says that one of the most joyous moments in his life was when Shobana addressed him by name, which meant that she knew him!

Speaking on his love for saris, which Sabyasachi Mukherjee says is an uber sexy garment, and his love for the Indian tradition, the designer says that he will never participate in a fashion show held overseas, because his own country has a lot to offer in terms of fashion. While fashion shows are his forte, his fans will be eagerly waiting to watch Sabyasachi Mukherjee the director.
