August 18, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): India has ventured into Jewelry Week by organizing the first ever 'India International Jewelry Week' (IIJW), which started on 15th August. The show is coming to its end now and will be concluding tomorrow on 19th August.

The five day jewelry show has been attended by 30 designers. Varun D. Jani, Farah Khan Ali, Goenka and Rhea Nasta are among the designers to showcase their collections at the event.

The Gem and Jewelry Export Promotion Council of India organized this event in association with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Tanishq, Gitanjali, Mirari, Amrapali and Ganjam are among the renowned brands to participate at the event.

Designer Farah Khan Ali said that the event gives a wonderful platform to the jewelry designers to showcase their talent. She added that even though the fashion industry organizes many events, this is a first to have such an event specifically for the jewelry industry. Farah said that the designers here want to showcase jewelry not only as an investment, but also as a piece of art.

Addressing a press meet, Vasant Mehta, the chairman of Gem and Jewelry Export Promotion Council, stated that IIJW will work as a platform to show the expertise of India in jewelry designing, in innovation, craftsmanship and quality.

The budding designers from the National Institute of Fashion Technology and National Institute of Design also get a chance to showcase their talents. IIJW is being held at the Hotel Grand Hyatt, Santa Cruz, which displays works of 776 exhibitors in its 1,600 stalls.
