Industry unaware of the Government film policy!

The government order was passed for 'Kannada Chalanachitra Neethi' – Film Policy a month ago but most of the film industry personalities are unaware of the new law.

The Kannada film policy 2011 has many additions to the existing policies. It makes special mention of the dwindling number of film-goers due to television and recommends a special subsidy for private citizens who come forward to build mini cinema halls.

Two new categories of awards: Popular Entertainer film and a Director's First Film award for a book on films, single window clearance from information department for shooting at locations in Karnataka, subsidy of Rs.25 lakhs for four films with pre-independence subject and those focusing on tourism places, special subsidy of Rs.15 lakhs each for five films based on Kannada literary works – are some of the highlights.

Writer and director Baraguru Ramachandrappa had filed a case in the high court three years ago, after his films failed to win an award. The HC had asked the government to submit before it a film policy, which was non-existent. In the draft prepared Prof. Baraguru Ramachandrappa, was also one of the members of the committee.
