Jack Black: I can still party

17th December 2010

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Jack Black is keen for people to know he can still party when making family movies.

The comedy actor has starred in a wide variety of films, but many of his fans equate him with the risqu humour typified in Tropic Thunder. Over the last few years he has appeared in more child-friendly films, such as Kung Fu Panda and his new release Gullivers Travels.

Jack wants his fans to know his changing roles dont mean he isnt funny anymore, rather that his priorities have changed now he has two kids with his wife Tanya Haden.

Actually, I feel pretty comfortable in family comedies, he explained. I am known for my bluer material with Tenacious D, but I can party in the family realm. And I have a family now, so I think about that stuff.

Jack plays the title character in Gullivers Travels, which is adapted from the 1726 novel by Jonathan Swift. The story has been altered somewhat for the movie and the Hollywood star insists the changes were necessary. However, the film still sees Jacks character marooned on a mysterious island.

We had to update the book, because it has been done a few times before and we wanted to appeal to a broad audience, he explained to British newspaper The Daily Telegraph. Also, you have to consider the fact that back in 1702, or whenever the book was written, it was conceivable that somewhere in the world, if you took a boat, you could find strange and fantastical things like the land of Lilliput, with one-inch-tall people.
