(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Dame Helen Mirren thinks her new movie The Tempest will still be watched in fifty years time.
The British actress stars as Prospera in a big screen adaptation of William Shakespeares play, taking the traditionally male part of Prospero and turning it into a female one.
Because the story of classic sword and sorcery is timeless and written by one of the worlds most famous playwrights, Helen believes school children will still watch the movie in decades to come.
She admitted knowing the movie had an enduring power made her feel very pleased and rewarded.
It will be, yes, she said when asked by Collider.com if it will be played in high schools. Its great to think about that. You know most movies have a couple of weekends if youre lucky, maybe a month in the cinema and then its gone really, maybe some DVD sales nine months later and then it becomes history and maybe you watch it at two oclock in the morning five years later on your cable or something. That world moves so fast and the one wonderful thing about doing a Shakespeare play on film is that you absolutely for sure that this will be watched in forty, fifty and sixty years time.
The actress also admitted that she jumped at the chance to star in The Tempest, even though at times she felt overwhelmed by the role.
She put herself forward for the part as she believes that all wizard and witch stories can be rooted back to the play.
It was my fault that I got myself caught up into it because it was kind of my idea to do it so I couldnt wriggle out at the last minute although sometimes I kind of wanted to, Helen said. Its kind of the original sword and sorcery story isnt it really? And the greatest sword and sorcery story of all really. I think its an incredible story. (C) Cover Media
