Jake Gyllenhaal takes pride in being "the best uncle he can be."

Jake's sister Maggie shares two young girls, Ramona, five, and five-month-old Gloria Ray, with husband Peter Sarsgaard.

The 31-year-old actor puts forth his best effort to care for his nieces.

"I'm an incredible uncle," he boasted on a recent appearance on Anderson Live.

"I try and be the best uncle that I can be."

The Saarsgaard children aren't the only ones benefitting from the attention of their doting relative.

Jake finds the pair "extraordinary" and admits that he's learning a lot about his often-competitive relationship with his thespian sibling Maggie by watching the girls interact.

"It's a similar dynamic between me and my sister to this day," he explained.

"I think we are each other's toughest critics, but we also, I think, love each other's work more than anyone else."

Jake has no children of his own and is busy with his career.

His latest project, police drama End of Watch, is currently in theatres.
